Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on November 9, 2025, to express concern about recent developments affecting low-income Americans’ access to food assistance.

In a post made at 00:38 UTC, Scholten stated: "It’s disheartening to know that both our president and the highest court in the land are taking extreme measures to withhold food from low-income Americans. We are so much better than this."

Later that day, at 20:31 UTC, she posted two additional messages regarding Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. In one message she wrote: "If you have questions about your SNAP benefits, please reach out to our office for help." In another post at the same time, Scholten added: "Republicans are using the courts to block full SNAP benefits while families in West Michigan face uncertainty about their next meal. Food is not optional — stop taking it off the table."

Hillary Scholten has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after succeeding Peter Meijer. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College and earned her JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
