Paul Hudson, a Republican nominee for Congress in Michigan, has released an official statement criticizing incumbent U.S. Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.) for her handling of border security solutions. The crisis hit Michigan this week, with local residents being asked to house migrants. Hudson pointed out Scholten's shortcomings on immigration, despite her previous role at the Michigan Immigration Rights Center.
"On the most pressing crisis of the day—securing our border—Representative Scholten is flailing," said Hudson, Candidate for US House of Representatives, Michigan's 3rd District. "Congresswoman Scholten pretends to be bipartisan and complains about ‘partisan games and delay,' but then turns around and votes party-line 96% of the time. West Michigan voters can see through the act."
In his statement, Hudson also claimed that Scholten supports an open-border policy and accused the Biden administration of exacerbating the border crisis.
According to Fox 2 Detroit, the Office of Global Michigan is requesting local Michiganders to accommodate migrants for a minimum commitment of 90 days. "The Office of Global Michigan’s goal is to make Michigan the home for opportunity for our immigrant, refugee and ethnic communities," said Poppy Hernandez, Michigan’s chief equity and inclusion officer and director of the Office of Global Michigan. Hudson referred to this development in his statement, emphasizing that the border crisis has reached Michigan and is directly impacting its residents.
Hudson also drew attention to Scholten's past association with the Michigan Immigration Rights Center in his statement. A report by Legal Newsline cited by Grand Rapids Reporter revealed questionable practices at the center, including an operator who minimized the importance of falsifying identity details for legal claims against employers.
In his statement, Hudson said: "Her actions, inaction, and silence have contributed to the ongoing catastrophe, with nearly 10 million illegal crossings causing a national crisis." He further blamed Scholten and the Biden administration for bringing the crisis "on our front doorstep."
As per his campaign website, Hudson hails from West Michigan and holds degrees from Cornell University and Georgetown Law. He currently serves as a senior partner at Miller Canfield and has previously been nominated to serve on the Michigan Supreme Court.
