Rep. Lynn Afendoulis (R-Grand Rapids Township) has announced her support of a budget plan that would increase per-pupil funding to $240 for K-12 schools in the state.
“I’m pleased the House was able to put politics aside and deliver a bipartisan plan that provides schools across Michigan with the resources they need to better position students for achievement in the coming school year,” Afendoulis said in a press release on the Michigan House Republicans website. “This school aid budget plan provides record funding for schools throughout the state and backs key programs that better equip students to lead successful lives after graduation day.”
The proposed $15.2 billion budget would be an increase of more than $300 million in the foundation allowance. The governor previously recommended per-pupil funding of $180 per student.
Among other things included in the proposed budget are increased investments in career technical education, literacy coaches, special education and school safety.
