Hillary Scholten addresses Minneapolis shooting and Gaza aid concerns in recent posts

Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on her social media account on August 27, 2025, addressing recent national and international events as well as offering assistance to her constituents.

In response to a school shooting in Minneapolis, Scholten wrote on August 27: "I’m absolutely heartbroken to hear of the tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. These innocent children were just embarking on a new school year. They deserved to be safe in their school.

Later that day, she commented on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, posting: "It is unconscionable for baby formula to be sitting at the border of Gaza as newborns and infants die of starvation.

Hillary Scholten has represented Michigan’s 3rd District since 2023 after succeeding Peter Meijer. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College (2004) and earned her JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
