Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues ranging from women’s rights to local business challenges and concerns about presidential actions.
On August 26, 2025, Scholten marked the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment with a call for continued advocacy. She stated, "105 years ago, the 19th Amendment was ratified, and American women gained the right to vote nationwide. On Women’s Equality Day, we continue the fight for equality for women in every area of life so they can thrive, not just get by."
Later that day, she addressed economic concerns facing her district. On August 27, 2025, Scholten wrote about local businesses dealing with tariff-related challenges: "West Michigan-owned businesses like @madcap Coffee are feeling the pinch of Trump’s tariffs. I’m working hard every day to support MI-03 business owners as they navigate increasing costs and strained supply chains — they deserve stability, not chaos."
In another post on August 27, Scholten responded to recent dismissals within the federal government by calling for accountability from national leadership: "This smacks of authoritarianism. The President needs to appear before Congress and explain these dismissals to the American people. Lives are on the line."
Hillary Scholten has represented Michigan's 3rd District since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023. Born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and currently residing there at age 41, Scholten holds degrees from Gordon College (BA) and University of Maryland, Baltimore (JD).
