Hillary Scholten addresses rising costs and highlights local policy efforts

Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently addressed concerns from her constituents regarding rising costs and highlighted her ongoing work in transportation and sustainability initiatives through a series of social media posts.

On August 11, 2025, Scholten acknowledged economic pressures facing Americans by stating, "I hear you loud and clear: things are WAY too expensive right now. More than half of Americans are stressed about food costs and grocery bills.  I’m working to bring some relief to hardworking Americans through the Lowering Costs Caucus, which is centered on real solutions to https://t.co/ymmbtY0ad1".

Later that day, she turned attention to local infrastructure efforts as a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Democrats (@TransportDems). She wrote on August 11, "As a @TransportDems member, I was proud to review West Michigan’s freight rail operations up close with the MI Railroads Association. I’m committed to supporting our local transportation employees, and securing the crucial investments they need to continue their important work. https://t.co/hKj5HbK5Be".

Continuing her focus on regional policy discussions, Scholten attended a business forum dedicated to sustainable practices. On August 12 she posted, "It was great to sit in on the 5th Annual Grand Rapids Sustainable Business Policy Forum, a truly collaborative space to discuss how public policy can support clean energy, sustainable supply chains, and responsible innovation. It’s incredible to see the West Michigan spirit of https://t.co/KcfAh8fe8i".

Scholten has served in Congress since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023 as representative for Michigan’s 3rd district. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and continues to reside there. Her educational background includes an undergraduate degree from Gordon College (2004) and a law degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2011).
