Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing clean water advocacy, support for the NAACP, and concerns regarding women in the military.
On October 19, 2025, Scholten reflected on the legacy of environmental legislation, stating, “It’s been 53 years of the Clean Water Act, but our work isn’t done to guarantee clean water for all.”
Later that day, Scholten commented on her participation in a community event, posting, “It’s always such a great night at the @naacpgr Annual Freedom Fund Gala. West Michigan is better because of the important work of the NAACP, and I’m proud to stand alongside them as we work toward a more just future for all.” The post highlighted her ongoing engagement with local civil rights organizations.
On October 20, 2025, Scholten addressed concerns about Secretary Hegseth’s approach to women in the military. She wrote, “Secretary Hegseth has targeted women in the military before he was even sworn in. @DemWomenCaucus and I are demanding that he stop dismantling vital resources for women in the military and end his demeaning rhetoric towards women. Our servicewomen deserve better.”
Scholten has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Peter Meijer. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College and a JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
