Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed constituents on social media about ongoing legislative efforts and the impact of the current government shutdown.
On October 13, Scholten posted a link to more information about a bill she is supporting, stating, "Read more about the bill here. https://t.co/lH3kRVIvjR".
The following day, she invited residents of West Michigan to participate in a live telephone town hall scheduled for October 15 at 4:30 pm. In her post dated October 14, Scholten wrote, "West Michigan, I want to hear from YOU. Tune in tomorrow at 4:30 pm for a live telephone town hall. I’ll be discussing the impacts of the government shutdown, the work I’m doing to try to end it, and taking your questions about the issues that matter most to you. RSVP at https://t.co/7Y82nMYBZd".
Later that same day, Scholten commented on the continued government shutdown and criticized House Republicans for preventing a vote to reopen federal operations. She stated, "West Michigan, it’s yet another week where House Republicans are preventing us from voting to reopen the government. Republicans would rather keep the government shut down and make your health care costs skyrocket than work for you. As always, my office is here to assist you https://t.co/eBvZmbESb4".
Scholten has served as the representative for Michigan's 3rd District since 2023, succeeding Peter Meijer. Born in Grand Rapids in 1982, Scholten is 41 years old and continues to reside in her hometown. She holds a BA from Gordon College (2004) and a JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2011).
