Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of updates on her social media accounts addressing trade policy, honoring the U.S. Coast Guard, and encouraging community engagement.
On August 3, 2025, Scholten criticized recent White House trade actions, stating: "After failing to strike 90 trade deals in 90 days — as was promised — the President is doubling down on his reckless trade policy by imposing heightened tariff rates on nearly 70 countries. This includes an increased tariff of 35% on Canada, Michigan’s largest trading partner."
The following day, she marked the anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard with a message of appreciation: "No one does it like our Coasties, and for 235 years, they’ve been keeping our shores and waters safe. Happy Birthday, @USCG! #SemperParatus ️ https://t.co/VISBYAvB9t" (August 4, 2025).
Later that same day, Scholten encouraged constituents in West Michigan to subscribe to her newsletter for legislative updates and event information: "Staying in touch with all of you is one of the best parts of my job, West Michigan. If you haven’t already, make sure you’re subscribed to my newsletter to keep up with the work I’m doing, upcoming events, important legislation, and more.

Scholten has served as the representative for Michigan's 3rd District since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College and a JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
