Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media addressing economic policy and celebrating local achievements by West Michigan students.

On August 2, 2025, Scholten criticized the economic direction under President Trump, stating, "Our economy is stagnating under President Trump’s chaotic economic policies, including his reckless trade war. Now is the time to invest in American workers and deepen partnerships, not wreak havoc on our domestic and global economic order." [August 2, 2025]

Later that day, she commended young filmmakers from her district: "I always find myself SO impressed with West Michigan’s young, bright students, and these two are no exception! Congratulations on such a successful and powerful short film, Caleb and Daniel, keep dreaming big and achieving great things!" [August 2, 2025]

On August 3, Scholten again addressed national policy issues in another post: "While President Trump unleashes chaos on our economy, rips health care away from millions, and raises taxes on the middle class, he’s rewarding himself with a new, gigantic $200 MILLION ballroom in the White House. It’s a punch to the gut for the millions of hardworking" [August 3, 2025]

Hillary Scholten has served as U.S. Representative for Michigan's 3rd District since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023. Born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and currently residing there at age 41, Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College (2004) and a JD from the University of Maryland (2011).
