Hillary Scholten discusses local honors and House Republican actions in July updates

Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, shared updates on community events and congressional matters through a series of posts on July 25, 2025.

In her first message of the day, Scholten highlighted a ceremony to honor a local Marine: "It was such an honor to host West Michiganders to rename the Comstock Park Post Office for Captain Miguel Justin Nava. Captain Nava was a Marine Captain who died tragically in a helicopter crash while serving in San Diego, California, in February of last year. Comstock Park was" (July 25, 2025).

Later that afternoon, Scholten expressed gratitude for community engagement at one of her events: "Thank you to our neighbors in Rockford who joined my town hall today! Hearing from you is the best part of my job. Looking forward to the next one!" (July 25, 2025).

In her final post that evening, she addressed recent actions taken by House Republicans regarding public access to information: "Speaker Johnson and the majority of House Republicans canceled votes to keep the Epstein files hidden. It’s a disgrace. The American people deserve to know the truth behind what they’re hiding. In this week’s episode of Straight Talk With Scholten, I lay out how Republicans have" (July 25, 2025).

Scholten has represented Michigan’s 3rd District since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and currently resides there. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College and earned her JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
