Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed a range of issues affecting her constituents and communities abroad through a series of posts on her social media account.
On July 20, 2025, Scholten expressed support for local efforts to assist Latino residents, stating, "I’m a firm believer in the promise of the American Dream, and LIBRE is breaking down barriers that prevent our Latino neighbors from achieving it. Thanks to the West Michiganders from LIBRE who are leading the way toward positive change for our Latino neighbors."
The following day, she commented on recent violence overseas. On July 21, 2025, Scholten posted, "I'm heartbroken and deeply concerned about the loss of innocent lives this weekend in Gaza. Innocent people seeking aid and food MUST be able to do so without harm as we work toward an end to this humanitarian crisis."
Later that same day, Scholten highlighted concerns over proposed changes to Medicaid funding. She wrote on July 21, 2025: "I've heard from countless West Michiganders who fear for their children's well-being if Medicaid funding is slashed. We must do better for these families."
Scholten has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Peter Meijer as representative for Michigan’s 3rd district. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College and a JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
