Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who has represented Michigan’s 3rd District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently shared a series of statements on social media addressing economic and healthcare issues, as well as highlighting community support services for individuals with disabilities.
On July 11, 2025, Scholten commented on the state of the national economy under former President Trump, stating "Devastating. Trump's economy isn't made for you and me, and it's not made for our family businesses."
Later that day, Scholten praised a local organization in her district: "West Michigan is lucky to have the Comprehensive Therapy Center in our community so that our neighbors with disabilities can have the support they need to thrive. I loved sitting down for coffee with caregivers of individuals with disabilities to hear their stories and answer" (July 11, 2025).
In an additional post on July 11, 2025, Scholten criticized proposed legislation affecting rural healthcare access: "The so-called 'Big, Beautiful Bill' will lead to less frequent, harder to access care for our rural neighbors. It’s going to send shockwaves through our health care system. Let’s talk more about how our rural health care facilities will suffer because of this legislation."
Hillary Scholten was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and continues to reside there. She holds a BA from Gordon College (2004) and a JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2011). She succeeded Peter Meijer as representative of Michigan’s 3rd District.
