Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who has represented Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently addressed several legislative and oversight priorities through a series of public statements on social media. Scholten, born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982, is an alumna of Gordon College and the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
On July 10, 2025, Scholten called for accountability regarding delays in emergency response resources. As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Democrats (@TransportDems), she stated: "As a member of @TransportDems, we demand answers. The American people deserve to know why @Sec_Noem delayed critical resources, including vital aerial surveillance that could have found victims sooner. We must hold an immediate hearing and deliver answers for these families."
Later that day, Scholten highlighted policy approaches to address the nation’s declining birth rate. In her statement posted at 19:47 UTC on July 10, she wrote: "Perhaps to combat our decreasing birth rate, we should be investing in reproductive care, making child care more affordable, and expanding programs like the Child Tax Credit. I’m a fierce fighter for legislation that supports our families, which is why I’m proud to cosponsor the".
On July 11, 2025, Scholten announced her leadership role on new federal legislation aimed at government accountability. She posted: "The BEACON Act is a necessary step to ensure that no Administration is above the law or immune from scrutiny, and I’m proud to lead this bill alongside colleagues from the House and Senate."
Hillary Scholten succeeded Peter Meijer as representative of Michigan’s 3rd District and resides in Grand Rapids.
