Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, representing Michigan's 3rd district since 2023, recently took to social media to express her views on various legislative matters. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and currently residing there, Scholten has a background in law with degrees from Gordon College and the University of Maryland. Her recent statements highlight her commitment to government transparency, opposition to certain legislative proposals affecting food assistance, and condemnation of inflammatory rhetoric.

On July 9, 2025, Scholten emphasized the need for transparency and accountability within the U.S. government. She expressed pride in joining forces with Senator Adam Schiff, Representative Rosa DeLauro, and Representative Alexander Vindman to lead the BEACON Act. According to her tweet, this bill aims to enhance governmental oversight regardless of presidential leadership.

Later that day, Scholten addressed concerns regarding food assistance cuts affecting approximately 123,000 Michiganders due to what she referred to as the Republicans' "Big Ugly Bill." She stated this was among her reasons for voting against it. In her post, she mentioned discussing these issues with local news outlet WZZM13 while advocating for benefits owed to West Michiganders.

In another statement made on July 9th via social media, Scholten called out Representative Randy Fine's remarks directed at Congresswoman Ilhan Omar as "unacceptable" and demanded an apology from him. She described such language as "inflammatory" and "dangerous," urging colleagues in Congress to collectively denounce violent rhetoric. Her tweet underscored a call for unity in condemning harmful discourse within political circles.
