Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, representing Michigan's 3rd district since 2023, has recently shared her views on social media regarding ongoing legislative matters and their impact on her constituents. Her recent tweets address the effects of Republican-led policies and express concerns over current legislative efforts.
On July 2, 2025, Scholten highlighted the plight of nearly 15,000 Michiganders who are "fearing for their livelihoods because of Republican-led slashes to Medicaid." She emphasized the importance of these stories by mentioning they were compiled in a "BIG, BEAUTIFUL BINDER" and invited people to share more during her virtual town hall meeting from Washington. "In this BIG, BEAUTIFUL BINDER are the very real stories of nearly 15,000 Michiganders who are fearing for their livelihoods because of Republican-led slashes to Medicaid."
Later that evening on July 3, Scholten questioned Speaker Johnson's methods concerning a bill under discussion. She expressed skepticism about its merits due to prolonged negotiations: "Hey, @SpeakerJohnson, if this bill is so beautiful, why is it taking hours of late night arm twisting to get it done?"
The following morning on July 3, Scholten reaffirmed her commitment alongside House Democrats in opposing what she described as a "Big Ugly Bill." She assured constituents that efforts were ongoing on the House Floor: "@HouseDemocrats are on the House Floor right now fighting for you and pushing back against this Big Ugly Bill. We aren’t giving up."
Hillary Scholten was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and currently resides there. She holds a BA from Gordon College and a JD from the University of Maryland.
