Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Michigan's 3rd district since 2023, recently took to social media to express her views on several pressing issues. Scholten, a Grand Rapids native and a graduate of Gordon College and the University of Maryland, Baltimore, used her platform to advocate for transparency in government agencies, commemorate a fallen military hero, and criticize past actions taken by former President Donald Trump.
On February 7, 2025, Scholten urged for greater transparency in government operations. She stated, "If you're not 'doing fraud' you should tell Congress to support my new bill making your agency subject to FOIA so we can see those emails, buddy."
Later that day, she paid tribute to Captain Miguel Justin Nava on the anniversary of his death. In her post dated February 7, 2025, she wrote: "Today marks one year since Captain Miguel Justin Nava was tragically killed in a helicopter training accident while serving our country. A decorated Marine Corps pilot, graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, father, husband, son, and valued community member — Capt. Nava represented…"
In another post from February 7th of the same year, Scholten criticized former President Trump's policies regarding gender equity. She asserted: "On his first day in office, Trump shut down the White House office that worked on gender equity. Every day since there have been more attacks on women's & families’ data, funding and access to information & care." She further emphasized that these actions were part of what she described as "Trump’s attacks on women."
