GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) celebrated the achievements of three outstanding individuals by naming them as the 2023 Employees of the Year. Officer Joseph Garrett, Officer René Garza, and Clorissa Novak were recognized for their exceptional contributions to the Grand Rapids community and the department.
Officer Joseph Garrett, a member of the Special Response Team and the US Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, was commended for his exemplary service and dedication. With a background in Criminal Law and fluency in English and Spanish, Officer Garrett has demonstrated outstanding leadership and expertise in various areas of law enforcement. Throughout his tenure, he has received numerous awards and accolades for his commendable work.
Officer René Garza, who serves in the Vice Unit, was honored for his exceptional work in administrative and investigative services. Officer Garza's bilingual skills in English and Spanish, combined with his extensive training and experience, have made him an invaluable asset to the department. His commitment to excellence and professionalism has earned him recognition and praise from his peers.
Clorissa Novak, the Victim Services Coordinator, was acknowledged for her unwavering dedication to supporting victims of crime in the community. With a background in social work and a strong commitment to advocacy, Ms. Novak has played a crucial role in developing and overseeing the Victim Services Unit. Her efforts have positively impacted the lives of numerous individuals and families in need of support and assistance.
