Grand Rapids Issues Survey on City Services, Other Topics

The City of Grand Rapids in Michigan has initiated a National Community Survey (NCS) as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance services. Randomly selected households across the city will receive a postcard requesting their participation in the survey. The responses obtained from these households will provide statistically valid data that will assist city officials in benchmarking metrics obtained from the previous 2022 NCS survey. The results will be utilized to guide the City Commission's discussions during future budget deliberations for Fiscal Year 2025.

The survey encompasses various aspects such as quality of life, City services, customer service experience, community characteristics and opportunities, and participation in City programs. With a total of 31 questions, the survey is estimated to take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

City Manager Mark Washington emphasized the significance of community feedback in the strategic planning process, stating, "Community feedback is vital to our City's strategic planning efforts as we work to measure our progress. We want to know how our community members feel about living here and what their experiences have been in interacting with City Hall. Accountability is one of our core values, and building a connected and engaged community is a priority. Every voice in our community matters."

While only randomly selected households will initially receive the survey, other community members who are interested in participating will have the opportunity to do so starting from March 7. The online version of the Grand Rapids' National Community Survey (NCS) will be available from March 7 to March 21.
