The City of Grand Rapids is once again showing its commitment to community engagement and neighborhood development. The Neighborhood Match Fund (NMF) is accepting proposals and ideas for projects that will take place between March and August 2024. This initiative aims to bring neighbors together, foster relationships, and celebrate the vibrant community of Grand Rapids.
Since its inception in 2017, the NMF has been instrumental in funding 245 resident-led projects, with a total investment of over $500,000. These projects have made a positive impact on the lives of many residents, showcasing the talent and creativity that exist within the city.
To be eligible for funding, projects must be led by a Grand Rapids resident who is from the community that will be affected by the project. The NMF awards contracts ranging from $500 to $5,000, encouraging community-based organizations and individuals to apply for funding.
The NMF project liaison and the Office of Equity and Engagement (OEE) team will carefully review all applications, ensuring they align with the objectives of the NMF. A diverse, community-led team will then evaluate the approved project ideas for final approval.
Once a project is approved, the project leader will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with the NMF coordinator and/or team to discuss the project's scope, expectations, outcomes, and strategies for inclusive outreach. The aim is to create an intentional and inclusive project that fosters relationship-building among residents.
For those interested in learning more about the program or seeking additional information, they can email nmf@grcity.us or visit the official website at grandrapidsmi.gov/nmf.
The City's continued investment in neighborhood projects demonstrates its dedication to enhancing the overall quality of life in Grand Rapids. By empowering residents and community-based organizations, the NMF is paving the way for a stronger sense of belonging and a more vibrant community.
As Mayor John Doe states, "Talent lives here, and this investment has made a positive impact in the lives of so many of our neighbors." The City encourages all eligible residents and organizations to apply for the Neighborhood Match Fund and contribute to the growth and unity of Grand Rapids.
With the deadline for proposals and ideas approaching at the end of this month, now is the time for community members to step forward and make a difference in their neighborhoods. Together, we can build stronger connections, foster a sense of belonging, and create a community that we are proud to call home.
