GRAND RAPIDS PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Grab and Go Meal Sites Open Monday, Wednesday, Friday

Mealswheel

Grand Rapids Public Schools issued the following announcement on March 27

Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) was recently informed that three of the partner meal sites will no longer be available as grab and go meal sites.

Creston Plaza, Campau Commons, and Walnut Grove are independent sites that have served students through the Summer Meet Up Eat Up program administered by Grand Rapids Public Schools. When schools were first ordered to close, all three stepped up and offered to staff and support grab and go meal sites at their locations. They informed the district Monday night that they are unable to continue staffing and supporting these sites.

As a result, GRPS is now offering a total of six grab and go meal sites, including the addition of one new location on the Northeast side at City High Middle School.

All six grab and go meal sites will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only from 11:30am to 12:30pm. The updated locations are as follows:

- City High Middle School (1720 Plainfield Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505)

- Hope Academy (240 Brown St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507)

- New Faith Temple (1701 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507)

- Ottawa Hills High School (2055 Rosewood Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506)

- San Juan Diego Academy (1650 Godfrey Ave. SW, Wyoming, MI 49509)

- Sibley Elementary (943 Sibley St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504)

As a reminder, the meals will be a breakfast/lunch combo and are available for all students 18 years of age and younger. This includes students with disabilities ages 18-26 with an active individual education program (IEP). The meals are not limited to GRPS students.

We are continuing to administer strict social distancing requirements of six feet. That means that the grab and go food will be placed on tables for parents/guardians to pick up individually. This will require parents/guardians to get out of their cars for collection of food. Special accommodations will be made for those individuals who may not be able to exit their cars or require additional assistance. Each site is well established as a drive-thru to easily accommodate parents/guardians in this situation. Parents/guardians are asked to please stay in their cars until they are directed to park and exit the vehicle to pick up food.

Support staff and volunteers will be on site, but they will be socially distanced by six feet. Parents/guardians may be asked to step back six feet if required by staff and volunteers. There may be delays due to these requirements.

If parents, staff, or volunteers have questions, they may call 616-301-1111 or email communications@grps.org.
