Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform this week to highlight public support for extending enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits and to address the ongoing federal government shutdown.

On October 7, 2025, Scholten stated, "In this political climate, it’s pretty tough to get the majority of Americans to agree on ANYTHING. Well, here you have it, folks.

78% of Americans support extending the enhanced ACA tax credits and providing much-needed relief for our neighbors struggling to afford health care."

Later that day, she addressed the government shutdown and urged a bipartisan solution, writing, "It has now officially been one week of a federal government shutdown, and I’m just as determined to find a solution as I was on day one. After a productive few days in West Michigan, I’m heading back to Washington, and I urge my @HouseGOP to return as well.

Now is the time to"

The following day, on October 8, Scholten reiterated her position on resolving the shutdown through ACA tax credit extensions: "Republicans can end this government shutdown TODAY by extending ACA tax credits. 78% of the American people support it — that’s who we work for. Let’s get it done."

Hillary Scholten has served in Congress since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023 and is known for representing Michigan's 3rd District. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten earned her undergraduate degree from Gordon College in 2004 and completed her JD at the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
