Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, addressed concerns about the ongoing federal government shutdown through a series of posts on her official social media account.

On October 3, 2025, Scholten posted: "On this week's special in-district edition of Straight Talk With Scholten, I debunk some of the myths that are being spread about the current federal government shutdown. It's more important than ever to prioritize facts over misinformation. Let's get into it." She also provided a link for viewers to access further information, stating on the same day: "Watch the full video here."

Continuing her commentary on October 4, 2025, Scholten criticized congressional actions during the shutdown: "Unconscionable. Our service members are working without the certainty of a paycheck, and Republicans just gave themselves another week of vacation. Call me, old-fashioned, but you don’t go home until the job is done. It’s time for a Republicans to call us back to vote."

Hillary Scholten has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after succeeding Peter Meijer as representative for Michigan's 3rd district. Born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and currently residing there, she holds degrees from Gordon College and the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
