First Round of Grand Rapids Water Testing Comes Back Negative

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The City of Grand Rapids has announced that the first round of water testing results has come back negative. In response to a significant water main break near Leonard and Union on March 17, the city conducted the testing in accordance with state and federal regulations.

"The results have come back NEGATIVE. This is a positive sign," stated city officials.

Despite the negative results, the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for the affected areas as a precautionary measure. Residents are advised not to drink tap water without boiling it first.

"When the Boil Water Advisory is lifted, affected community members will receive another notification and official Grand Rapids communication platforms will distribute information regarding next steps for businesses and households," officials added.

The city has urged residents in the affected area to use boiled or bottled water for various purposes, including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation.

"If you are in the affected area, DO NOT drink tap water without boiling it first. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice," emphasized city officials.

For any inquiries or to report a water/sewer emergency, residents are encouraged to contact customer service by dialing 616-456-3000, or dial 3-1-1 if they are within the city limits.

The city is currently preparing for another round of sampling while the water system has been flushed. Updates on the situation will be provided through official channels.
