City of Grand Rapids offices and the Grand Rapids Public Library (GRPL) will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The closure is part of the city's effort to give its employees time to celebrate the holiday with their families.
According to the city's announcement, all branches of the GRPL will resume their normal hours on Friday, Nov. 24. However, the City offices will not resume their normal business hours until Monday, Nov. 27.
In addition to the closure of the offices, the city's refuse, recycling, and yard waste curbside collections will also be affected by the holiday. The collections scheduled for Thursday will be postponed to Friday, and those scheduled for Friday will be picked up on Saturday.
The city's yard waste drop-off site at 2001 Butterworth St. SW will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. However, it will be open on Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for those who need to dispose of their yard waste.
It is important to note that the closure of the GRPL branches on Wednesday, Nov. 29 is not related to the Thanksgiving holiday. The branches, except for the West Side branch, will be closed on that day for a staff in-service day.
For individuals who require access to city services during the holiday closure, the city provides a 24-hour online platform for a variety of services. This platform is available 365 days a year and can be accessed by clicking on the provided link.
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, the City of Grand Rapids takes this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday season.
