City seeks community feedback on police chief candidates

Surveyaa

City of Grand Rapids issued the following announcement on Jan 19.

Now that the community has had a chance to become familiar with each of the candidates for Grand Rapids police chief, City Manager Mark Washington is interested in what residents think about the potential next leader of the Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD).

The community is invited to provide their feedback of the candidates via an online survey or by calling 311 or 616.456.3000. The survey is live and available for comment through 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26.  The anonymous survey asks participants to share their thoughts and impressions about each candidate. It asks how they formed their thoughts and impressions about the three candidates. It also requests basic demographic information of the survey participant.

After the January 26 deadline, Public Sector Search & Consulting will share the feedback with City Manager Mark Washington to assist him during the candidate evaluation process. The public’s thoughts and opinions of candidates will be one of many factors Washington considers as he vets and ultimately chooses who will lead the GRPD.

Battle Creek Chief of Police Jim Blocker, retired Milwaukee Police Isnspector Jutiki Jackson and Chicago Police Commander Eric Winstrom each participated in a hybrid online/in-person Police Chief Candidate Forum Wednesday night. Each fielded questions from those in attendance, submitted in advance from the community and asked online during the meeting from those watching virtually. Those who did not watch can catch a video of the event on the City’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
