Grand Rapids Community College issued the following announcement on April 1.
Congratulations to Sarah Schmidt and Matthew Cook, who each received a scholarship from Valley City Linen.
Jeff Jeltema, CEO of Valley City Linen, stopped by last month to present the scholarships to the two Secchia Institute for Culinary Education students.
Both Cook and Schmidt are working toward and Associate in Applied Arts and Sciences in Culinary Arts.
“My goal is to work at The Inn at Little Washington after graduation,” Cook said.
Schmidt, who moved to Grand Rapids from Arizona to enroll at the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education, plans to work toward becoming a food auditor or health inspector while furthering her education.
“My hopes are to one day become a food critic and open my own chain of restaurants with recipes I’ve created throughout my life,” she said.
Grand Rapids Community College offers learners of all ages opportunities to gain credits for degrees or transfer and in-demand career skills leading to rewarding careers. GRCC was established in 1914 – Michigan’s first community college -- and offers affordable classes on weekdays, evenings, Saturdays and online at locations throughout Kent and Ottawa counties.
