U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, representing Michigan’s 3rd district, used her social media platform this week to criticize House Republicans over the ongoing government shutdown and to comment on recent developments related to the Epstein files.

On October 8, Scholten posted: "Republicans could end this shutdown TODAY. I’m here in Washington to work for you — where are they?"

The following day, Scholten addressed the duration of the government shutdown and its implications. On October 9, she wrote: "Today marks day EIGHT of this shutdown. The deadline to pass a budget is the same every single year. We know it’s coming.

Speaker Johnson has cancelled vote after vote after vote. Republicans are playing games with our economy and with the livelihoods of millions of Americans."

Later on October 9, Scholten shifted focus to comments made by Bondi regarding the Epstein files. She stated: "Bondi said a lot of words yesterday, but it was what she DIDN'T say that spoke volumes — she didn’t say she’d release the Epstein files, and she didn’t say Trump is not in the Epstein files. "

Scholten has represented Michigan’s 3rd District in Congress since 2023, succeeding Peter Meijer. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College (2004) and a JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2011).
