Ferris State University's men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, on Friday, October 3. The event brought together programs from NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA schools.
The Ferris State women's team finished 17th overall in the women's gold 5K division with a total of 430 points. Whitney Farrell led the Bulldogs by placing 42nd with a time of 18:27.9. Other top finishers for Ferris State included Jessica Durkee (86th, 19:02.4), Ella Kowatch (89th, 19:07.7), Olivia Van Denend (109th, 19:24.8), Tessa Wohlschlegel (117th, 19:33.1), Emily Plouff (120th, 19:36.0), Taylor Huntoon (124th, 19:37.7), Isabelle Eppert (127th, 19:41.2), and Abby Griffith (151st, 20:15.4).
On the men's side, Ferris State placed 21st in the men's gold 8K event with a score of 543 points. Julian Linebaugh was the top finisher for the Bulldogs at 93rd place with a time of 26:07.8. He was followed by Ben Knuth (106th, 26:14.7), Emmett Johnson (115th, 26:24.9), Aaron Bowerman (119th, 26:33.4), Ryan Ososki (125th, 26:40.4), Theodore Davis (126th, 26:44.9), David Harris (150th, 27:32.2), Josh Oom (155th, 27:52.3) and Ben Sciott (164th, 29:09.6).
The invitational featured competition among some of the strongest collegiate cross country teams across different divisions.
Ferris State is scheduled to participate next in the Lewis Conference Crossover on Saturday, October 11 in Romeoville, Illinois; selected athletes will also compete at the Jayhawk Invitational in Muskegon on that day.
