Hillary Scholten highlights disability advocacy, clean energy efforts, and voting rights legislation

Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently highlighted a range of local and national issues through her social media posts.

On August 23, 2025, Scholten wrote about her experience meeting participants in a disability advocacy event: "I was so inspired to meet leaders and finalists of Ms. Wheelchair America in West Michigan! These powerful women are working hard to break down the architectural and attitudinal barriers that exist for the disabled population.  I’m determined to continue fighting for a more https://t.co/B1dgtNX6B0".

Later that same day, she discussed energy infrastructure in Michigan: "From supporting over 1 million homes as a backup power source to supporting Michigan’s transition to clean energy by complementing intermittent renewable sources like wind and solar, the Ludington Pump Plant is a crucial resource for our community. On August 24, Scholten referenced voting rights legislation: "It’s been 4 years since the House passed the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, a historic piece of voting rights legislation in the name of the late, great Civil Rights hero, Rep. John Lewis. I’m a staunch supporter of expanding access to the ballot box and will".

Scholten has represented Michigan’s 3rd district since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and continues to reside there. Her academic background includes an undergraduate degree from Gordon College (2004) and a law degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2011).
