U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, representing Michigan’s 3rd district, addressed several local and national issues in a series of posts on August 21, 2025.
In a post highlighting environmental concerns, Scholten wrote on August 21, "Although the lampreys don’t inflict harm to humans — like my brave son, Wes, who let one latch onto his hand earlier this week — they’re devastating for our fish population. The $2.1 million grant I secured is going to help rein in the harmful lamprey population and protect our". This comment references her efforts to secure funding aimed at controlling the lamprey population that threatens local fisheries.
Later that day, Scholten shared an update about her engagement with community financial leaders: "Great to meet with @mibankers, who work to expand access to capital and offer essential resources for our community, such as financial literacy, education, and networking events." The post reflects ongoing dialogue between Scholten and regional banking representatives about economic opportunities and educational outreach.
In a third statement posted on August 21, Scholten commented on national economic policy: "Trump’s economic policies are bad for America and bad for West Michigan. Period. While Trump makes prices skyrocket, I’m fighting every day to lower costs and make life more affordable for all West Michiganders."
Hillary Scholten has represented Michigan's 3rd District in the U.S. Congress since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and currently resides there. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College (2004) and earned her JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
