Ferris State University (FSU) men's and women's tennis teams faced defeat in their recent home matches against Grand Valley State University (GVSU), marking their first league losses of the season. Each team suffered a 5-2 setback to their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rivals on Friday, March 28, at the Racquet and Fitness Center.
In men's action, FSU initially secured success in the doubles round with victories from Kevin Kovacs and Erik Kovacs, and the pair of Adrian Catahan and Kacper Pasielak. Felipe Iser and Alessandro Santangelo also contributed with a 6-4 win in doubles. However, Grand Valley State responded by winning five out of six singles matches to claim the overall victory. Santangelo was the lone singles victor for the Bulldogs, securing a win in a three-set match at the second position.
Similarly, the Ferris State women put forth a strong initial performance by claiming the doubles round. Yara Madi and Aimee Reynoso, together with Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer and Ayva Johnstone, earned doubles victories. Despite Madi's effort resulting in a three-set singles victory at the second spot, GVSU captured the remaining singles matches, sealing the win.
Following these results, both Ferris State teams look forward to bouncing back with upcoming matches against Davenport on Saturday, March 29. With matches beginning at 10 a.m. for the men's team and an approximate 2 p.m. start for the women's team, FSU aims to return to winning form.
