Davenport University has announced the addition of Ultimate Frisbee to its athletic program for the 2023-24 season. The university is currently searching for a head coach for both men's and women's teams, along with assistant coaches. Recruitment efforts are underway to form a team that will compete in the fall of 2023. Scholarships will be offered to qualified team members as part of this new initiative.

"Ultimate is a fascinating non-traditional sport that has high energy and is very entertaining. We are excited to add Ultimate to our long list of successful athletic programs at Davenport University," stated Paul Lowden, Executive Director of Athletics.

USA Ultimate serves as the national governing body and offers a College Division where over 18,000 student-athletes participate on more than 800 teams, making it USA Ultimate's largest division.

The regular season runs from early January through mid-April, culminating in national rankings that determine how many bids each of the ten geographical regions receives for the College Championships.

The postseason championship series includes conference and regional qualifying tournaments, allowing these teams to earn spots at nationals. Ultimately, 40 teams—20 each in the men's and women's divisions—are invited to the Division I College Championships held every Memorial Day weekend. For smaller schools with enrollments typically under 7,500, the Division III College Championships host 32 teams. At season's end, four national champions are crowned: one men's and one women's team in both Division I and Division III.

Davenport University's teams will compete nationally as well as locally against institutions such as Grand Valley State University, Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, and the University of Michigan.
