The Ferris State University men's golf team remains tied for 10th place after the second round of the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championships, held at the Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden, Florida. The Bulldogs started the championships tied for 10th with a score of +4 on Tuesday and improved with a team score of 285 in Wednesday's round.
In a field of 20 teams, Oklahoma Christian leads at 16-under par, while West Florida and Colorado Christian are tied for second at seven-under par. The top eight teams after Thursday's final round will advance to the quarterfinals. Ferris State is four strokes away from eighth place.
Individually, Nathan Kraynyk is tied for ninth place with a score of 69 in round two. Caleb Bond follows closely, tied for 12th after scoring a 68. Zach Koerner is tied for 54th with a score of 73, McCoy Biagioli is tied for 81st with a score of 75, and Sam Havey also shot a 75, tying him for 87th overall.
Ferris State will begin their third round on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. Eastern Time. The championship event runs from May 21-25 as part of the Division II Spring Sports Festival in Orlando. All participating teams and individuals will complete three rounds of stroke play before an individual champion is declared.
Following stroke play, the top eight teams will be seeded into a bracket based on scores to compete in head-to-head medal play starting Friday. The Bulldogs qualified for nationals by finishing fifth at the NCAA D2 Midwest/Central Super Regional Championships on May 11 in Edmond, Oklahoma.
This marks Ferris State's first appearance at nationals since 2019 and their 17th overall in program history. In past performances, they have achieved notable finishes including runner-up honors in regional tournaments and reaching national quarterfinals.
Ferris State also secured its GLIAC Championship by defeating Grand Valley State earlier this year.
