Ferris State University's men's tennis team secured the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular-Season Championship. The Bulldogs achieved a 6-1 victory over Lake Superior State on Saturday at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center, concluding their regular season with an unblemished 6-0 record in the GLIAC.
This win not only gave Ferris State its 21st conference title but also ensured them the top seed for the upcoming league tournament. The Bulldogs have now claimed back-to-back GLIAC Championships and have won seven of the last nine regular-season titles.
The match against Lake Superior State marked Ferris State's tenth consecutive win this season. The team dominated both doubles and singles matches, securing victories in all three doubles flights and winning in straight sets in the top five singles spots. This performance improved their overall record to 15-4.
"It was such an awesome day at the Ferris State tennis center," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "It was the perfect day to celebrate our seniors who have meant so much to both our men's and women's programs. We had a great crowd that came out to support both teams and help send the seniors out in style. I know that it was senior day, but I really thought the seniors showed amazing leadership and toughness on the court today."
Doren emphasized, "It was super important to the men's team to outright win the conference championship and you could tell in the focus they had on the court today."
The GLIAC Tournament is scheduled from April 26-28 at Midland Tennis Center, where Ferris State will enter as the number one seed. Further details about matchups will be released by the league office following all teams' completion of regular-season play.
