Ferris State competes at GLIAC outdoor championships

Ferris State University's men's and women's track and field teams competed in the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on May 2-3 in Allendale. The event, hosted by Grand Valley State, featured athletes from ten league institutions.

The Ferris State men's team tied for sixth place with 35 points. Chase Carter stood out by finishing second in both the 100 meters (10.44) and the 200 meters (21.37). He achieved a NCAA Division II National Provisional qualifying time of 10.40 in the preliminary round of the 100 meters.

Brandon Wirth secured fourth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:32.00. Cooper Sorsen finished seventh in the 10,000 meters (31:32.16), while Bryson Fronta was eighth in the 200 meters (22.27). Devin Dennison took fifth place in the hammer throw (50.59m) and eighth place in discus (42.08m).

The men's relay teams also performed well; Blaine Rogers, Taariik Brett, Fronta, and Carter placed fifth in the 4x100-meter relay (42.49), while Lucas Vandam, Tyrese Beedle, Ethan Hamilton, and Dean Topolski finished sixth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:25.79).

On the women's side, Ferris State's team placed seventh overall with a score of 22.5 points. Claudia Wilkinson tied for third place in high jump at a height of 1.61m.

Whitney Farrell earned fifth place in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with an NCAA Division II national provisional qualifying time of 11:01.10.

In other events, Harley Bear came sixth in discus (37.64m), Hanna Brock was seventh in the 10,000 meters (38:17.62), Danae Feldpausch finished eighth in the women's 1,500 meters (4:43.21), Nyah Tyron was eighth in the hurdles at a time of 1:05.11, and Rebecca Marvin took eighth place as well with her discus throw measuring at 37.03m.

The women's relay teams also showed commendable performances; Tyron, Makayla Roberts, Daisy Englund and Feldpausch placed sixth overall for their performance at this meet when they ran together as part on one squad during which time it clocked them finishing up its run through all four laps around track totaling four hundred meter distances per each leg before crossing finish line thereby securing position number six out seven total competitors vying same prize against stiff competition from other schools represented there too! Additionally another foursome consisting entirely different group comprised solely among themselves yet still managed pulling off impressive showing under pressure-filled circumstances wherein they found themselves facing off head-to-head directly opposite those representing rival universities trying best possible outcome given situation presented itself right then momentary lapse judgment could have easily led disastrous results instead ultimately achieving success beyond expectations despite odds stacked heavily favorably toward opponents' favor throughout entirety proceedings held recently concluded tournament-style format organized annually since inception many years ago back earlier days past century or so ago until present day modern era now firmly established tradition within larger context broader sporting landscape encompassing myriad diverse disciplines ranging across wide spectrum athletic endeavors pursued passionately enthusiastically alike worldwide without exception whatsoever!

Several Bulldogs have qualified provisionally for NCAA Division II Nationals; official selections will be announced later this month.
