Ferris State track teams excel ahead of GLIAC Championships

Ferris State University's men's and women's track and field teams showcased strong performances at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet in Allendale, a preparatory event for the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships. The meet was rescheduled to Thursday due to weather forecasts.

The Bulldogs' 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Blaine Rogers, Bryson Fronta, Taariik Brett, and Chase Carter, achieved a school-record time of 41.09 seconds. Carter also excelled individually by winning both the 100 meters (10.69 seconds) and the 200 meters (21.58 seconds). Fronta secured third place in the 200 meters with a time of 22.16 seconds.

Other notable performances included Rogers finishing ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.42 seconds), Dean Topolski placing eighth in the 400 meters (50.19 seconds), Brett securing tenth in the 100 meters (11.05 seconds), and Brandon Wirth taking twelfth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:30.28).

In field events, Aaron Pierce achieved fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 21-4.25 feet, while David Duvall finished sixth at 21-4 feet. Hunter Richardson placed seventh in shot put with a throw of 45-3.75 feet, and Devin Dennison came eleventh in discus at 139-6 feet.

On the women's side, Whitney Farrell broke her own school record and surpassed NCAA D2 National Provisional qualifying time by finishing tenth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:53.50 minutes.

Nyah Tyron was runner-up in the women's 400 hurdles clocking at 1:05.40 minutes, while Claudia Wilkinson took second place in high jump clearing a height of 5-1.75 feet. Angela Kotecki secured third place in long jump reaching a distance of 16-10 feet.

The women’s relay team composed of Kotecki, Frances Hoffman, Ana Fortier, and Lacey Zimmerman placed third overall with a time of 50.47 seconds.

Zimmerman also earned sixth place overall in the women's 100 meters clocking at12.56 seconds along with ninth position in the women's200 meters timing26 .16seconds .Makayla Roberts captured tenth position within women’s400meters running at one minute flat(1 :00 .69minutes ).

Rebecca Marvin finished seventh within women’sshotput throwing38 -7feet & eighth during discuss event achieving126 -4feet respectively .

The GLIAC Outdoor Championships are scheduled for May2nd through May3rd back again into Allendale hosted via Grand Valley State University(GVSU).
