The Grand Rapids Symphony recently announced its concert schedule for the 2022-23 concert season.

The symphony will once again offer its Chamber Series and Coffee Classics performances, according to a March 15 press release. The symphony will also offer a special “double-feature” finale of the Harry Potter series, and a new two-concert Sunday program called “The Pianists.”

“I think this is going to be a very dynamic and robust season, with a wide variety of programs, really offering something for everyone,” said Music Director Marcelo Lehninger in the release. “This year we have continued our focus on diversity by planning a lineup of concerts, soloists and composers who underscore our commitment to inclusion.”

The Richard and Helen DeVos Classical Series will highlight Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, Strauss’, along with Zarathustra and Mozart’s “Requiem” and a concert by composer Nina Shekhar named “Hate the Sin, Love the Sinner,” along with Alexander Miller’s “Immortal Beloved,” according to the release.

“Our journey over the last two years has been marked with innovation, resilience and a driving commitment to serve the West Michigan community,” said Mary Tuuk Kuras, president and CEO of the Grand Rapids Symphony. “Stirring programming in our 2022-23 season will nourish our mission and make our hearts full, even as we expand our relevance in the community.”

The Grand Rapids Symphony also announced it would feature guest artists including violinists Sarah Chang and Rachel Barton Pine, organist Cameron Carpenter, along with Michigan-based saxophone extraordinaire, Timothy McAllister, the release stated.

Concert performances will highlight the symphony’s James Crawford and violinist Megan Crawford, along with Lehninger and three guest conductors, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Bramwell Tovey and Tianyi Lu, according to the release.
