Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on her social media account on October 16, 2025. The posts addressed ongoing political issues, community engagement, and local achievements.
In a post dated October 16, 2025, Scholten criticized congressional Republicans for their role in the continued government shutdown: "It’s now week three of a government shutdown. Republicans have gone nearly a month on a taxpayer-funded vacation without work. It’s a disgrace.
@HouseDemocrats are back in Washington to demand that Republicans get back to work and end the needless suffering that this shutdown is".
Later that day, Scholten expressed gratitude to her constituents following a community outreach event: "Thank you to the nearly 8,000 West Michiganders who tuned in to our telephone town hall yesterday. I can’t do my job well without hearing directly from you, and events like these inspire me to keep pushing forward to deliver for our community.
I’ll never stop fighting for you," she wrote.
In another message on October 16, Scholten praised Gerald R. Ford International Airport: "Small but indeed MIGHTY, that’s our @FlyGRFord! So proud of West Michigan’s pride and joy for being voted the #1 small airport in the nation. Onward and upward! "
Hillary Scholten has represented Michigan's 3rd District since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten graduated from Gordon College with a BA in 2004 and earned her JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
