Ferris State University's men's and women's cross country teams participated in two separate competitions on Saturday, October 11. The teams competed at the Lewis Conference Crossover in Romeoville, Illinois, and also sent selected athletes to the Muskegon Jayhawk Invitational.
At the Lewis Conference Crossover, the women's team finished 25th overall with a team score of 630 in the 3.73-mile race. Senior Whitney Farrell led Ferris State by placing 48th with a time of 22:27.4. Jessica Durkee was next for the Bulldogs, finishing 110th in 23:10.1.
The men's team at Lewis placed 28th out of 36 schools with a total of 761 points in the 4.97-mile event. Freshman Julian Linebaugh was the top finisher for Ferris State, coming in at 136th place with a time of 25:44.3, followed closely by Ryan Ososki in 137th at 25:44.9.
In Muskegon, the men's squad competed over an eight-kilometer course and finished eighth overall with a score of 255. Jose Flores was Ferris State's leading runner, taking 50th place with a time of 26:52.47, while Ben Scott finished in 58th place at 27:01.91.
The women's team placed ninth in Muskegon's five-kilometer competition with a total of 253 points. Emma Berglund led her teammates by finishing in 54th place at 20:11.07; Jocelyn Shattuck followed in 57th place with a time of 20:18.80.
Both teams will continue their season at the GLIAC Championships scheduled for October 25 in Caledonia.
