Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several issues on her social media accounts in early October 2025, including the government shutdown, support for teachers, and domestic violence awareness.

On October 5, Scholten commented on the ongoing government shutdown with a post stating: "Let’s talk about the facts behind this government shutdown:

1. Democrats DIDN’T shut down the government.

2. Democrats have never proposed to give health care to undocumented immigrants.

3. We don’t have time to wait to act, because costs are already skyrocketing for millions https://t.co/DZpzYGSUQN".

The following day, Scholten marked World Teacher Day by expressing gratitude toward educators. In a tweet dated October 6, she wrote: "As the daughter of an educator, I’m proud to support our teachers. Happy #WorldTeacherDay to all of the individuals taking on the important task of educating our young ones and making the world a better place. You’re superheroes! ".

Later that same day, Scholten raised awareness about domestic violence and shared resources for those affected. Her post read: "Domestic violence impacts millions of Americans each year. It is never too late to ask for help. If you or a loved one is a victim of domestic violence, call the 24-hour National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE. https://t.co/pqQP87Zm6q".

Scholten has served as Michigan’s 3rd District representative since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023 and resides in Grand Rapids, where she was born in 1982. She holds degrees from Gordon College and the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
