Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has voiced concerns on social media regarding potential impacts of a government shutdown and funding cuts to Medicare services.

On September 30, 2025, Scholten posted about telehealth access for seniors, stating: "Telehealth is a lifeline for millions of American seniors, but @HouseGOP is about to rip away this essential service. Without proper funding for Medicare, our seniors who experience limited mobility or transportation hurdles could be left without care. It's a disgrace."

Later that day, she addressed the broader implications of a government shutdown: "A government shutdown is harmful. It shouldn’t be how we do business in Washington. I’m here with my @HouseDemocrats colleagues working to fight for the American people."

In another post on September 30, Scholten highlighted the impact on women and families: "Women and families are going to be hit hard by the Republican-induced shutdown. The @DemWomenCaucus won’t stand for it. We’re fighting back."

Scholten has served as the representative for Michigan’s 3rd District since 2023 after succeeding Peter Meijer. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College (2004) and earned her JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
