Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared a series of statements on her social media account addressing labor unions, political violence, and the looming threat of a government shutdown.
On September 18, 2025, Scholten posted about her ongoing support for local labor organizations: "Our labor unions and organizations are drivers of change in the workforce. It’s always great to meet with West Michigan @Teamsters to reaffirm my commitment to American workers."
The following day, she addressed concerns over political unrest by sharing: "My statement on the resolution to condemn political violence." This post highlights her stance against politically motivated aggression.
Later on September 19, Scholten commented on the recurring risk of federal government shutdowns: "We’re once again on the brink of a government shutdown — a pattern that has become all too familiar in our political world. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. In fact, it SHOULDN’T be this way. Let’s get into it on this week’s episode of Straight Talk With Scholten."
Hillary Scholten began serving as representative for Michigan's 3rd district in 2023 after succeeding Peter Meijer. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and continues to reside there at age 41. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College (2004) and earned her JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
