Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed issues ranging from education to government funding and the balance of power between branches of government in a series of social media posts.
On September 16, Scholten shared her engagement with local educators, stating, "Great to meet with superintendents from all across MI-03 today — we had representation from Kent, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties! I’m a steadfast supporter of our educators, and will continue working alongside them to ensure West Michigan’s students have what they need to thrive."
Later that day, she commented on the federal budget process as the annual deadline approached. On September 16 she posted: "Every year, the government funding deadline falls on the same day: September 30th. It's not a surprise. We only have two weeks left to pass a responsible funding package that keeps our government afloat."
Addressing separation of powers within the federal government on September 17, Scholten wrote: "Congress is supposed to be a separate and equal branch of government to the President and his Administration — not blind enforcers of the Executive Branch's policies. Let's talk about what happened on the House floor this week, and how President Trump is taking power away from"
Hillary Scholten began serving as representative for Michigan’s 3rd district in 2023 after succeeding Peter Meijer. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten earned her undergraduate degree from Gordon College in 2004 and later received her law degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
