Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has voiced concerns on social media regarding recent Republican actions related to national emergencies and government funding.
On September 17, 2025, Scholten criticized her Republican colleagues in a tweet, stating: "Republican leadership, chaotic as ever, took nearly an hour to get their party together and prevent the passage of this resolution — at the behest of President Trump. So for now, the effort to enforce our constitutional authority as it relates to national emergencies is on". In a follow-up post published seconds later, she reaffirmed her commitment to her constituents: "As for me, I'll continue to fight for West Michiganders and will never bow down to a wannabe authoritarian."
Later that day, Scholten addressed concerns about federal government operations and funding. She posted: "We’re running out of time to keep our government functioning. The American people deserve a responsible funding package that supports our essential services and employees — not a partisan package that undermines what keeps our nation afloat. Let’s get to work." (September 17, 2025).
Scholten has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Peter Meijer as representative for Michigan's 3rd District. Born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and currently residing there, she earned her BA from Gordon College in 2004 and her JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
