Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently used her social media platform to highlight legislative efforts and concerns related to aviation safety, health care costs, and gun control.

On September 12, 2025, Scholten expressed her support for new mental health initiatives in aviation. She wrote, "Our aviation professionals deserve support. I’m a proud cosponsor of the Mental Health in Aviation Act of 2025, which passed the House this week, and would require @FAANews to review and update its regulations and policies on mental health for pilots and air traffic controllers."

Later that day, she addressed the financial challenges facing Americans seeking medical care. On September 13, 2025, Scholten marked an anniversary related to gun legislation by referencing historical context. She stated: "On this day in 1994, President Clinton signed the first-ever Federal Assault Weapons Ban into law. Since it expired in 2004, Congress has failed to reestablish an assault weapons ban, and innocent Americans have paid the price. It’s long past time to pass another assault weapons"

Scholten has represented Michigan's 3rd District since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and continues to reside there. Scholten holds a BA from Gordon College (2004) and a JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2011).
