Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently shared updates on her legislative efforts and community initiatives through a series of posts on social media.
On September 7, Scholten announced opportunities for local students to apply for nominations to national service academies, stating, “It’s an honor to help send young West Michiganders off to our nation’s service academies every year. Team Scholten is accepting applications for 2025 Service Academy Nominations — if you're interested in learning more about the process, visit https://t.co/OYeDYgzNuA.”
The following day, on International Literacy Day, she reflected on the value of reading and literacy by sharing a personal message: “My mom always said, ‘If you can read, you can do ANYTHING,’ and I’m a firm believer in this piece of wisdom. This #InternationalLiteracyDay, let’s remember the critical importance of literacy for creating a more literate, just, peaceful, and sustainable society.”
On September 9, Scholten highlighted bipartisan progress in transportation legislation with another post: “Michigan put the world on wheels, and I am ready to work across the aisle to ensure that West Michigan’s transportation sector continues to thrive. I’m so proud that two of my bipartisan @TransportDems bills passed the House today. These bills would bolster transportation.”
Scholten has represented Michigan's 3rd District since 2023 after succeeding Peter Meijer as its congressional representative. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and continues to reside there. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Gordon College (2004) and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2011).
