Two Ferris State University student-athletes have been recognized as recipients of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Commissioner's Award for the spring 2025 season. The announcement was made by the league office last week.

The awards are given annually following the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons to six male and six female student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically. Eligible candidates must be juniors, seniors, or graduate students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 and serve as key starters or reserves on their teams.

Ferris State's honorees include junior women's golfer Kamryn Shannon from Jackson/Michigan Center and junior men's tennis player Erik Kovacs from Toronto, Ontario.

Ferris State University was one of only three institutions, along with Grand Valley State and Wayne State, to have multiple student-athletes honored for the spring season.

Since the inception of these awards in 2007, Ferris State has had a total of 93 student-athletes recognized, ranking among the highest in the conference.

Kamryn Shannon led her team to the NCAA Division II National Championships for the first time in 16 years. She tied for seventh individually at the NCAA D2 East Regional Championships and placed 80th overall at the National Championships. Shannon also achieved a top-10 finish at the GLIAC Championships. Her achievements this season earned her All-GLIAC First Team recognition and GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honors. She shot a school-record tying score of 68 in the final round of Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite and won FSU's fall home invite at Katke Golf Course.

Erik Kovacs received All-GLIAC First Team recognition while helping his team reach the NCAA Division II Tournament. He was named GLIAC Player of the Week during this season and also earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors. Kovacs posted a 14-6 doubles record at number one flight and won 11 singles matches in various positions within FSU's lineup, losing only one regular-season conference match at top doubles spot this year.
