Ferris State track teams achieve record-breaking performances ahead of GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams experienced another successful outing, achieving record-breaking performances this past weekend. The teams competed at the Grand Valley State Extra Weekend Meet in Allendale, serving as their final preparation for the 2025 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships.

The Bulldogs saw two school records fall and recorded six top 10 all-time performances. The athletes secured 23 top-eight finishes across various events.

Whitney Farrell achieved a new school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10:42.34, taking second place in the event.

Abby Winkle led the Bulldogs by winning the 400 meters with a time of 56.55, the sixth-best in school records. Winkle was also second in the 200 meters (24.88).

In the 1,500 meters, Kaylee Huey placed third with a time of 5:04.45. Lizzie Haines took third in the 100 hurdles (15.24) and Nyah Tyron placed fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:05.50).

Allie Delost finished fifth in the 100 meters (12.27), while Lacey Zimmerman was sixth in the 200 meters (25.45) and took eighth in the 100 meters (12.53). Angela Kotecki placed fifth in the long jump with a jump of 17-9.75, ranking seventh in Bulldog history.

In other races, Frances Hoffman placed sixth in the 100 hurdles (16.06), and Kendra Montague was seventh in the 400 meters (1:00.50), with Haines finishing eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:08.17).

Hanna Brock set the sixth-fastest time in school history in the 5,000 meters, finishing ninth (17:27.90).

Ferris State won the women's 4x100-meter relay as the team of Zimmerman, Kotecki, Winkle, and Delost recorded a new school record with a time of 47.09.

On the men's side, Charlie Sutton placed fourth in the 100 meters (10.83) and sixth in the 200 meters (21.74). Bryson Fronta finished sixth in the 100 meters (10.85) and seventh in the 200 meters (21.80).

Hayden Josef achieved fourth place in the high jump (6-2.75). Nathan Alford was seventh in the 1,500 meters (4:05.41), and Blaine Rogers finished seventh in the 110 hurdles (14.99). Aaron Pierce placed eighth in the long jump (21-7.25).

In the hammer throw, Devin Dennison placed ninth (187-2), marking the fourth-best performance in Bulldog history. Jared Watchorn placed 28th in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.76, securing the ninth-best time in Ferris State history.

Ferris State's men's 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Rogers, Ignatius Jackson, Fronta, and Sutton, finished fourth with a time of 42.09, the third-best in the school's record books.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs are set to return to Allendale for the GLIAC Championships on May 1-2.
