Ferris State ends home softball season with losses against Wayne State

Ferris State University's softball team played their final home games of the 2025 season against Wayne State University, resulting in two defeats on Tuesday at the FSU Softball Field. The Bulldogs suffered a 5-2 loss in the first game and a narrow 3-2 defeat in the second game, both part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader.

The final home series also marked Senior Day, where Ferris State recognized the contributions of senior players Brooklyn Verbeek, Maddie Gkekas, and Riley Kish.

In the first game, Wayne State managed to notch up nine hits while limiting Ferris State to five. Wayne State opened the scoring in the first inning, but Ferris State responded by taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning. Wayne State secured the win with four runs in the seventh inning. Key contributors for Ferris State included Alexis Kozlowski, who hit a triple and drove in a run, and Emily Killion, who also contributed with a hit and an RBI. Pitcher Catherine O'Donohue completed all seven innings, allowing two earned runs on nine hits.

The second game saw Wayne State record ten hits, holding Ferris State again to five hits. The teams were tied with a run each in the third inning, but Wayne State edged ahead with two more runs in the fifth. Ferris State scored once more in the seventh but couldn't overcome the deficit. Highlight performances came from Emma Gillard, with two hits, and Paige Antcliff, who hit a double. Kozlowski and Gkekas each drove in a run.

Cecelia Bell pitched for Ferris State in the second game, allowing three runs on ten hits over seven innings. Ferris State's record now stands at 24-16. Their next fixtures include a road trip to face Parkside on Friday, April 25, followed by a game against Roosevelt on Saturday, April 26.
